Despite increased microglial recruitment to Ab plaques upon SCFA supplementation, microglia contained less intracellular Ab. Taken together, our results demonstrate that microbiota-derived SCFA are critical mediators along the gut-brain axis which promote Ab deposition likely via modulation of the microglial phenotype.
