Studies of the gut microbiota on health and disease are of high importance, and the role of probiotics and prebiotics as modulators of the microbiota require studies to find the best candidates. The obtained results show that the Lactobacillus strains evaluated possess properties such as adherence to cultured cells, inhibition of the colonization and growth of pathogenic bacteria, and regulation of the inflammatory response. All of these are elements that make them good candidates for use as probiotics. However, it is important to evaluate their properties in animal models to ensure they are safe to use in clinical applications. CLICK TO REVIEW
